It is our intent to give you information and the primary source so you can debate and take action from a reasoned point of view to persuade others to the wrong that is abortion. If we can help you get informed and take effective action then we will have succeeded.
However, its a hard process and there are many better equipped to know and report on the activities “on the Hill.” We get information from several “conservative” and “libertarian” news sources as well as some strongly ProLife news sources. All the “good” ones are at our Resources page. They each have an agenda so we try to do a reasonable fact-check and then pass on the good here. Those “in the know” can tell you better than us what legislation will likely proceed and how much it will change etc. We also have a network of friends and like minded bloggers who we talk to. All of this though is based on our opinions and observations and of course our agendae – conscious and subconscious.
Noting that limitation (and suggesting you read or reread our How to Debate post) here is some small bit of data on the latest things in the Congress.
Search http://thomas.loc.gov/home/c111query.html for “reproductive”:
1 . Human Cloning Prohibition Act of 2009 (Introduced in House) H.R.110.IH sponsor Rep. Jeff Fortenberry (R-Neb.)
2 . Prevention First Act (Introduced in Senate) [S.21.IS] sponsor Harry Reid the cosponsors are a list of the usual suspects: Boxer, Carper, Clinton, Feinstein, Inouye, Kerry, Lautenberg, et al. This one bears watching and opposing.
3 . Prevention First Act of 2009 (Introduced in House) [H.R.463.IH] the same bill, different co-conspirators including Representative David Price D, NC-4
4 . Community Health Workers Act of 2009 (Introduced in Senate) [S.319.IS] really inocuous (though expensive) until you read that its directed at women of reproductive age and that gives a hint at what health care “services” are covered.
5 . Nonnative Wildlife Invasion Prevention Act (Introduced in House) [H.R.669.IH] oops NA
6 . Veterans Health Care Authorization Act of 2009 (Introduced in Senate) [S.252.IS] I can’t tell about this one.
Other legislation is:
1 . Enhancing Health Care Coverage for Children Act S 82 is strongly prolife but has little chance to proceed except as a statement of principles.
2. Children’s Health Care Quality Act S 225 is an attempt at bipartisanship but the cosponsors’ names Kennedy, Kerry and Voinovich make me doubt it.
Note the titles are deliberately meant to make the bill sound appealing. ie who could be against a “Freedom of Choice Act?” Well the FOCA – not yet introduced and hopefully never introduced in this congress – is terrible. I have only quickly scanned through the Health Care Freedom of Choice Act HR 502 but the sponsor Rep Michele Bachmann, [MN-6] is ProLife.
