|Urge Senators to Remove Abortion Funding from Health Bill|
Despite the pro-life victory in the House which passed the Stupak-Pitts anti-abortion funding amendment, the Senate has begun debate on their version of “health care reform” which includes government funding for abortion. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) began the process before Thanksgiving and has rejected calls to include the “Stupak-Pitts” pro-life amendment in the Senate version of the bill. In fact, pro-abortion politicians are telling constituents that the bill does not fund abortion because of the Hyde amendment, which does prevent Medicaid funds from paying for abortion. However, the Hyde amendment would be bypassed if the health programs in the Senate bill became law, and the Reid bill WOULD fund abortion in the public option and subsidize plans if it became law.
Please contact your Senators and ask them to support any amendment to prevent taxpayer funds for abortions! E-mail your Senators and urge them “to vote ‘Yes’ on any amendment to include the Stupak-Pitts language to ban government funding of abortion.”
